    MLP Opportunities Staff Attorney - Public Benefits: Medical Legal Partnership Legal Aid Chicago Legal Aid Chicago seeks a full-time staff attorney in our Public Benefits Practice Group. This position reports to a Supervisory Attorney. The Public Benefits Practice Group houses a ground-breaking medical-legal partnership (MLP) with the Chicago Department of Public Health and the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to integrate legal, medical, and public health services in Chicago’s most health challenged neighborhoods. Responsibilities include but aren't limited to: maintaining a caseload of individual cases representing clients before the Social Security Administration, IDHS and other state agencies that oversee public benefits in state and federal courts; maintaining and growing knowledge in a specialized area of law, and competence in related areas of law; interviewing eligible clients on a wide range of public benefits issues and providing advice and brief services in appropriate cases; and participating in complex litigation or advocacy to address systemic issues. Learn More Health Justice Project Supervising Attorney Loyola University Chicago School of Law The Supervising attorney will work within the HJP to manage the Maywood MLP and assist with managing the case load of the HJP, engage in direct representation of clients and systemic advocacy, and supervise other staff and students. The supervising attorney will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the Loyola Medicine Community Health & Well-Being staff, health science faculty, and health care providers at the Maywood Family Health Center and other Loyola Medicine outpatient clinics in western Cook County; engage in outreach and training for health care providers, students, and patients; develop internal and external resources and materials; manage referral and information exchange protocols; and provide direct service representation and policy advocacy to low-income patients and their community. Operating in various counties in Illinois and having served a multitude of residents, MLP-Illinois seeks to address the systematic barriers that cause health problems and require legal action to resolve. ​ Our ultimate goal is to help members advocate for those in need to access to services to better their health. We believe that with access and opportunity, people can become empowered to ensure their health and well-being.
